In 2018, the VA MISSION Act was signed into law, which expanded options for veterans to get care from community health care providers when the VA isn't able to meet their needs. Unfortunately, under previous VA leadership, bureaucrats worked overtime to undermine the spirit of the MISSION Act and keep veterans from accessing the care they've earned.

Instead of offering veterans the option to seek care from local providers, the VA often encourages veterans to wait months or drive hundreds of miles out of state to other VA facilities. Too often, delaying care, such as urgent mental health treatment - forces veterans to suffer and sometimes die trying to get the appointments they need.
