Veteran Health Care Is Being Stolen

Dear Officials:

The VA was created to serve veterans, the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for our freedoms. Unfortunately, the VA is failing our nation's heroes.
Veterans are suffering, and even dying, while waiting for timely health care the VA could easily provide through community care that they're entitled to under the terms of the 2018 VA MISSION Act. The VA has put up obstacles and bureaucratic roadblocks for veterans trying to use that program for needed care. Meanwhile, the VA is now abusing and misusing the community care program for unauthorized migrants and non-citizens at the request of border security agencies. This is an atrocious betrayal of veterans who earned that care through their blood, sweat, and countless sacrifices - but find it denied far too often.
As your constituent, I look to you to demand that this national disgrace stops today. The community care program should be used to improve veteran health care - not address failures in our nation's border security system. Additionally, I urge you to pass legislation like the Veterans Health Care Freedom Act (S.1545) that would strip away barriers veterans face from the VA, and puts them in the driver's seat on their health care choices. Veterans deserve the competency to schedule and access their own health care. Not one more veteran should lose their life waiting for care while the VA focuses on priorities outside of their its core mission.

Veterans spend months waiting for care while being denied access to the community care program they’re entitled to under the VA MISSION Act. Meanwhile, the VA is permitting unauthorized migrants that haven’t served and sacrificed for our country to get medical care via the VA’s community care option. The VA has consistently not measured up in implementing the MISSION Act, too often failing to provide veterans community care choices. The VA has faced scandal for years over its mismanagement of patient scheduling systems and wait-time data, which unfairly restricts veterans from accessing community care options.
