We Deserve Answers On Ukraine!

Congress should oppose more spending before we get answers to tough questions.

As your constituent, I urge
you to oppose any package to send additional aid to Ukraine until the Biden
Administration provides satisfactory answers to the tough questions about the
war and our involvement. I would also urge you to ask the questions and demand
those answers.

Americans are right to
sympathize with Ukraine as it resists Russia’s immoral war of aggression, but
the U.S.’s response must also protect its own vital interests. Here at home, we
are facing record inflation, outrageous debt, soaring gas prices, and more and
more Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. Is it in our interests to continue writing blank checks to Ukraine?

Instead of rubber-stamping an
aid package, lawmakers should demand clearer answers from the Biden
Administration on its goals in Ukraine, how they relate to our national
interests, and how this aid package supports them. The American people deserve
to know the following:
- What defines
  “victory” in Ukraine?
- How does the
  package encourage our wealthy European allies to take greater responsibility
  for their security?
- How does this package
  manage escalation risks and make a diplomatic resolution more possible?
- What steps is the
  Administration taking to preserve American readiness as munitions stockpiles
  deplete?
Please vote “no” on any aid
package without getting the answers to these questions. Your constituents
deserve to know how you are spending our tax dollars and protecting our
interests.

Russia’s war on Ukraine is immoral and unjustified. Prolonging or expanding the war will only bring more devastation and suffering for the Ukrainian people, leaving them worse off and Americans no safer or more prosperous.

Recently, the Biden Administration expanded U.S. policy aims to include helping the Ukrainian military achieve ‘victory.’ However, the conditions and requirements to accomplish this result were left undefined.

Now, Congress is debating a $40 billion aid package for Ukraine. This proposed package exceeds all previously delivered U.S. security assistance to Ukraine since 2014 more than five-fold, and more than doubles the $14 billion recently authorized for Ukraine less than two months ago.

America is struggling with record-setting inflation, outrageous debt, and energy depletion, among several other issues. Before any additional aid is approved, the Biden Administration and Congress need to define how additional funding will benefit U.S. interests and what their strategy is to bring about an end to the war in Ukraine.

Exercising oversight is an essential duty of our representatives in Washington, particularly when it comes to high-stakes questions of U.S. foreign policy. It is a mistake for Congress to fast-track yet another massive aid package to Ukraine when the Biden Administration has repeatedly sent confused and mixed signals about its desired end-state in Ukraine.

We deserve answers to the tough questions no one is asking or answering.
